DO NOT EVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER.
There are several mischievious acts that students perform. we pick on our lecturers, gossip about them, protest against their rules and all sorts of things.
Anyways, there is this lecturer in my faculty whom students call 'dummy' privately amongst themselves.the man is slow...walks slow, talks slow, thinks slow and is usually very boring in class, he doesnt even ever bother to look up away from his lecture notes. naturally, I am the kind of person who doesnt tolerate sluggish people and as such was among those who were strongly convinced that the man was a dummy.
Yesterday i was walking down the corridors on my departmental building when i met the men coming from the other direction walking slowly as usual with his head down. i said to myself 'this slow man again.' His key fell and i stopped to help him pick it up. our eyes met and that was when i saw the tears in his eyes. My concerned self blurted out,.'sir, i hope there is no problem.' he straightened and said ' i just cant forget'.
'Forget what', i asked. he did not reply , he simply turned and opened the door to his office. I followed him in, searching his face probably for answers to my question. when I realised i wasnt gonna get my answers through that, i repeated myself..he sat, sniffed and dropped the bombshell. ' I lost my wife and four kids some years ago on the same day.' I was dumbfounded and some minutes after, I muttered..'I am very sorry sir.' , but by then, he was allready making attempts to smile. I was seriously ashamed of myself and felt very bad. it then dawned on me that this was a man struggling with pain of the loss of his loved ones and whose behaviour ,which we ignorantly made fun of, was brought upon him by the very sad occurence. i walked out of the office silently , turned when I got to the door and said again to him,'I am so sorry sir'......
Cool.
